Hi everyone! This is my official public cancer announcement, a very difficult announcement for me to make. But after months of pondering (since Nov 2018), and needing to take all this in myself first, I am finally ready to share my news. I have shared this news with some privately. The reaction has been interesting. Most beyond what I would imagine supportive. Just a small few ran for the hills tee hee , but I can understand and it is Ok. So yes, my news officially is I was diagnosed with cancer. Colon cancer to be exact. I was going to keep it quiet, but in seeing some people with health struggles inspire others, as well as myself by courageously sharing their stories, I felt I too had to do my part and step up to the plate.
In terms of where I stand in regards to this mentally, physically and spiritually, it has been a roller coaster. The big question many and maybe even you may have is how and why did I get this when I have lived to take care of myself?! It turns out there is not 1 definitive answer. So I figure, there is no point to dwell on it. Instead I will live to conquer this demon instead which I am doing! I began with advice passed on to me by my family physician Dr. Michael Bazos in Toronto. Therefore I will remain courageous, steadfast, strong, positive, and no matter what grateful no matter my circumstances to the best of my ability. As well the Doctor in the photo with me is my amazing oncologist in LA, Dr. Eric Bank. He is helping me as we speak. My chemo and treatments are going well and so far I’m responding favorably despite unfavorable circumstances. My many friends and loved ones have said I am doing an amazing job so far.
In the meantime, I will continue to try to function as normal as possible while I work on healing. Some days will be better than others. One thing I can assure you, my work here on this earth is far from over, so don’t you worry.
In conclusion, I request to not be defined by this affliction. This girl has so many messages and so much to say to hopefully help the world with. In the words of Tony Robbins, ‘No matter what happens, I’m going to live in a Beautiful state!’
Sincerely, RhondaLee Quaresma aka RLQ
P.S. Extra thanks to my beautiful family and friends for being there for me. I am blessed! (I look forward to a future post dedicated to this)
